Vietnam Veterans of America Memorial Day Ceremony (Columbia)

Memorial Park
South Carolina Memorial Park, Photo Credit: Historic Columbia Online

Monday, May 31st

9 a.m.

This event will take place at the Vietnam War Memorial Wall located in Memorial Park in Columbia and will begin shortly after 9 AM.  Parking is available near the corner of Gadsden and Washington Streets in a lot adjacent to this site. The event will feature a brief traditional ceremony honoring our fallen across US history with music and words of remembrance. The public, relatives and other friends of fallen service members as well as representatives of various veterans’ organizations and interest groups are invited to attend.

Attendees are asked to practice social distancing and wear appropriate face coverings (masks) when in close proximity to others. There will be seating on-site particularly for those in need.

Our organization, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Col. Jack Van Loan Chapter 303, located in Columbia; is the host of this event and is asking to be contacted by anyone who would like a special mention at this ceremony particularly if they are relatives of the fallen from any US conflict. Of course, this applies to anyone who was a friend or relative of a person whose name is on this Vietnam War Memorial Wall.

This monument features the names of all individuals who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country in the Vietnam War. Notably these names have been placed on this wall listed by SC county and, as such, it is a moving and appropriate memorial often used by many veterans organizations as a site for remembrance and tributes to all veterans and the fallen.
