COLUMBIA, SC (SCDVA) - Legionnaires from American Legion Post 193 of Chapin will lay to rest the cremated remains of 21 previously unclaimed Veterans at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 13th at 11:00 a.m.
Collectively the Veterans have provided more than 60 years of service to our nation, having served during World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, and the Global War on Terror. The American Legion, Patriot Guard, Vietnam Veterans of America, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and many other Veterans and citizens from across the state of South Carolina will ensure that these Patriots receive the honorable and dignified interment they deserve.
The cremated remains of the Veterans will be transported by Dunbar Funeral Home and escorted to the Fort Jackson National Cemetery from Chapin American Legion Post 193 at 102 Lexington Avenue on September 13th at 10:10 a.m. by the American Legion, Patriot Guard Riders and other patriotic citizens wishing to participate.
Chapin American Legion Post 193 member and Pastor at Chapin Christian Community Church, Paul Allen, will officiate at the ceremony. An Honor Guard from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and American Legion Post 71 in North Augusta will provide full military honors. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
