COLUMBIA, S.C. - Two county veterans' affairs offices are mourning the loss of dedicated workers this month.

Julia Mae McCullough was employed with the Florence County Veterans' Affairs Office for more than 30 years. She was born in Effingham, South Carolina in January of 1949 and passed away on January 11, 2021.

Michael Chris Hoagland headshot

Michael, “Chris” Hoagland served on the York County Veterans Affairs staff for more than eight years. He is a United States Army Veteran with service in the South Carolina National Guard and a career spanning more than 25 years.  During his military service, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in both Iraq (2003) and in Afghanistan (2010), where he earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service.  

He was a Veterans' Affairs Benefits Specialist for York County for nearly nine years. 

Hoagland passed away peacefully at home on January 10th, 2021. Though Chris is a native of Rock Hill, he and his wife resided in Chester, South Carolina.
