WASHINGTON, DC- The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) just announced new changes to the way Veterans can sign in to their VA related accounts. This year, Veterans will have two secure sign-in account options for all VA websites and apps: Login.gov and ID.me. These two multifactor authentication sign-ins will not only help Veterans securely access VA websites and mobile apps but will also assist USDVA in modernizing and protecting Veterans' personal information.
On March 5, 2025, USDVA removed the MyHealtheVet option from its websites and apps and are planning to remove the DS Logon option after September 30. With this new change, Veterans will still be able to use their My HealtheVet health portals and access previous records but will need to sign in using one of the two new sign in options.
How do I create a Login.gov account?
You can create your account for VA online. Here’s what you’ll need:
- A unique personal email address that only you use
- A unique password that includes at least 12 characters
- A way to add an extra layer of protection to your account (called multifactor authentication or MFA), like an authenticator app or mobile phone to get text message codes

The first time you use your account to manage your VA benefits or information, you’ll need to verify your identity. This one-time process helps us protect all Veterans’ identities and prevent scammers from stealing your VA benefits. You must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license or state ID. You may be able to verify online or at a participating U.S. post office.
