What is the Thanksgiving Food Drive?
The South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA) in partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank and Lowcountry Food Bank is honoring service through action during the 5th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
According to Harvest Hope, one in five South Carolinians struggle with hunger. SCDVA, Harvest Hope and the Lowcountry Food Bank's partnership for this community-driven initiative is designed to support Veterans and families in need during the holiday season and ensure that no one goes without access to nutritious meals.
"Veterans have given so much in service to our country. No
family and certainly no Veteran should have to worry about where their next meal will come from," said Sy Hughes, CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. "At Harvest Hope, we are proud to do our part in giving back to Veterans and their families alongside neighbors facing hunger across our communities. We are grateful to the Department of Veterans' Affairs and everyone supporting this food drive for helping ensure families access to the food and support they deserve."
"We appreciate the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs for bringin
g communities together across the state to help neighbors who experience food insecurity," said Nick Osborne, President and CEO of Lowcountry Food Bank. "Veterans have given so much in service to our country. Ensuring they and their families have access to nutritious food is one meaningful way we can support them. This three-week food drive also provides an opportunity for people throughout the Lowcountry to make a difference for anyone who faces hunger in a time when the cost of basic monthly expenses is high. We look forward to working alongside the Department and our community to turn generosity into food for our neighbors."
"Ensuring that no South Carolina Veteran or family goes hungry is a duty we owe to those who have sacrificed so much for our nation," said Todd B. McCaffrey, Secretary for SCDVA. "Through our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, we are bridging critical gaps and reducing food hardships for Veterans and citizens across our state during the holiday season. We are immensely grateful to our dedicated partners at Harvest Hope Food Bank and the Lowcountry Food Bank for their steadfast support and tireless work to serve our communities. Together, we can ensure every family has a place at the table this Thanksgiving."
The food drive will run from Monday, November 2nd to Friday, November 20th, 2026. For a list of food items needed and drop-off locations click below.
