WASHINGTON, D.C. - Based on historical data, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) anticipates a spike in enrollments in the Spring 2021 term, leading to a significant increase in workload. The VA will be working with schools to make sure the increase in work does not affect typical timeliness for the season. Without a need for schools to either hold or resubmit previous enrollments, students can expect the VA to maintain more stringent timeliness standards for an average processing time of 24 days for a new claim and 12 days for a re-enrollment.

The VA remains committed to helping Veterans and their families through the COVID-19 pandemic, and is prepared for the many impacts COVID-19 can have on students, on-line schooling and institutions of higher learning. While every student’s situation is different and there remain many unknowns with regards to the pandemic, VA is prepared for any increase in workload for applications and enrollments due to the financial and economic impacts of COVID-19 to beneficiaries.
