COLUMBIA, S.C. - As of this month, the South Carolina House of Representatives has formally recognized all three South Carolina Veteran of the Year Honorees. The resolutions, H.5036, H.5037, and H.5038, were introduced during the 126th Session of the South
Carolina General Assembly and honor the 2024-2026 Veteran of the Year recipients. The resolutions document the General Assembly’s formal acknowledgment of each honoree’s military service and continued contributions to the United States, the State of South Carolina, and the Veteran community.
First Sergeant (Ret.) Alvin King and Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Robert Clark received their recognitions and framed resolutions at the South Carolina state House on Wednesday morning. The resolutions were read aloud in the house chamber by the Representative of District 42, Doug Gilliam. Similarly, current Veteran of the Year, Master Sergeant (Ret.) Alfonso Boyd received a joint resolution recognizing his service in late April.
As of this week, all current and former Veteran of the Year Honorees received formal recognitions which serves to document their legacy, service, and sacrifice.
Resolution Summaries:
MSG (Ret.) Alfonso J. Boyd, the current 2026 South Carolina Veteran of the Year, was recognized by the South Carolina House on April 22, 2026. House Resolution 5036 honored Boyd for his “exemplary military service and dedicated leadership in support of Veterans and youth in Chester County” and noted his more than twenty-two years of Army service, his leadership in establishing and expanding JROTC programs in
Chester County schools, and his service as commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19. The resolution also recognized that under his leadership, Chester County Veterans received more than one million dollars in earned benefits.
First Sergeant (Ret.) Alvin King, our 2024 Veteran of the Year, was recognized by the House on May 5, 2026. House Resolution 5037 honored King for his “exemplary service to the United States of America and the State of South Carolina” and cited his twenty-year Army career, his fo
unding of the Range Fore Hope Foundation, and his advocacy for Veterans, service members, and their families through programs addressing PTSD and other challenges.
Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Robert Clark, the 2025 South Carolina Veteran of the Year, was also recognized on May 5, 2026, through House Resolution 5038. The resolution recognized Clark for his military career and continued veteran advocacy, including leadership, outreach, and support for South Carolina veterans following his retirement from active duty.
