PTSD Awareness Month Flyer

**Information from ptsd.va.gov

The month of June is National PTSD Awareness Month. According to the National Center for PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like combat, a natural disaster, a car accident, or sexual assault.

It's normal to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping after this type of event. If symptoms last more than a few months, it may be PTSD. The good news is that there are effective treatments. The National Center for PTSD has a list of treatment resources at pstd.va.gov

NATIONAL PTSD SCREENING DAY

June 27th is PTSD Screening Day. It's a day we mark to spread the word about self-screening. That said, you can take the screen any time. The VA's goal is to help you get the treatment you deserve. If you are concerned about someone else, you can share the PTSD self-screen with your loved one.

The South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA) has teamed up with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) and the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) to connect military members with resources that can provide assistance getting through a mental health crisis.

SCDMH and DAODAS are providing the Interactive Screening Program - a safe and easy service that allows you to anonymously take a Self-Check Questionnaire and connect with a professional counselor in the State of South Carolina who can provide guidance, support, and resources to help connect you with mental health and addiction services.

SCDVA SIGNING

The South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA) and Emory Healthcare Veterans Program signed a partnership in June of 2021 to provide mental healthcare and services to support post-9/11 Veterans and servicemembers in the Palmetto State.

More than 2.7 million Americans have been deployed since 9/11. It is estimated that one in three return from service with mental healthcare needs such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST) or other related conditions. These conditions create everyday challenges and ruin valued relationships, BUT treatment and resources are available to help improve daily life.
